"A Louis XV Style Desk Lamp, In The Style Of Léon Messagé, In Gilt Bronze And Marble, Circa 1900”

A very elegant Louis XV style desk lamp, crafted from finely chased gilt bronze, resting on a circular griotte red marble base. The undulating stem is richly adorned with a winged figure, accompanied by rocaille motifs and foliage. The lower section features a stylized fish/dolphin motif, typical of the rocaille style. The sinuous arm supports a pleated lampshade in light fabric, embellished with decorative gathers. (Fabric needs replacing) This lamp reflects the style of Léon Messagé, a renowned French sculptor and bronze worker active at the end of the 19th century, known for his refined decorative creations blending female or mythological figures, putti, and naturalistic elements. His highly sought-after works are characterized by exceptional craftsmanship and an elegance inspired by the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. Functional wiring. A high-quality decorative piece, ideal for a study, living room, or distinguished library.

Mahogany Bookcase – Maison Jansen, Paris

Mahogany Bookcase – Maison Jansen, Paris

A mahogany and mahogany veneer bookcase, richly adorned with finely chased gilt bronze mounts, signed JANSEN on the top. It features a two-tiered open front with shelves framed by gilt bronze moldings, as well as curved sides embellished with openwork bronze grilles. The piece rests on four tapered legs ending in bronze sabots. The top is surmounted by a Spanish brocatelle marble slab. The frieze, which opens with a drawer, is decorated with a continuous frieze of circular gilt bronze motifs, characteristic of the neoclassical style favored by the House of Jansen. The House of Jansen, founded in Paris in 1880, is one of the leading French furniture and interior design firms of the 20th century. It has distinguished itself through the exceptional quality of its craftsmanship and its commitment to the great French classical styles. At the beginning of the 20th century, Maison Jansen took over the legacy of Maison Zwiener, a renowned 19th-century cabinetmaker, thus perpetuating a tradition of excellence based on the use of precious woods, marble, and finely chiseled bronze. This lineage explains the great technical precision and timeless elegance of Jansen furniture. Supplier to palaces, embassies, and prestigious private residences, Maison Jansen remains today an essential reference in luxury French furniture.
