Modern Daybed Midcentury for Knoll by Lilly Reich and Mies van de Rohe

Modern Daybed Midcentury for Knoll by Lilly Reich and Mies van de Rohe

A beautiful, authentic original daybed for a designer collection. The daybed is in good vintage condition. Several pieces of leather in the patchwork were replaced in the 1980s. The daybed was professionally cleaned for inclusion in the exhibition. The joint projects of Mies van de Rohe and Lilly Reich, especially their interiors, exude luxury and modernist architecture. There was close collaboration with Bamberg Metallwerkstatt, later with Thonet and then Knoll. Reich's design for the daybed, a combination of a bed and sofa, created a furniture type highly sought after in modern interiors. The flexible form of the furniture, with a steel and wood frame on four chrome-plated steel legs, was multifunctional during the day for sitting or lying, and for sleeping a guest at night. This daybed, as described in the exhibition catalog, was exhibited exclusively in 2025 at the MOMU museum in Antwerp. Designed in 1930, the Barcelona Couch shares the same simple elegance as the rest of the Barcelona Collection, exhibiting Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's command of line and material in any medium, from architecture to furniture.exceptional craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail.
